The University of Amsterdam has over seventy scholars devoting part or all of their time to the study of the Middle East. Of these, approximately two-thirds are appointed by the Faculty of Humanities and one-third active at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. Furthermore, there are about 25 PhD students for whom (and by whom) the ACMES PhD community has been established.
ACMES associates in the Faculty of the Humanities are active in one of the following Research Institutes:

Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (ASCA)
Amsterdam Center for Language and Communication (ACLC)
Amsterdam School for Regional, Transnational and European Studies (ARTES)
Nearly all ACMES associates in the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences are active in the
Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research
