Whether it is the recognition of statehood, UN membership or Den Haag-based international courts, international law plays a huge role in shaping Palestinian diplomacy for self-determination. In an age of impunity, however, the lever of international law seems increasingly broken. In the face of genocide and hardened diplomatic frontlines, what diplomatic strategies are still on the table to advance the Palestinian cause?

H.E. Ammar M.B. Hijazi, Palestinian Representative to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Ambassador of Palestine to International Organizations in Den Haag since September 2024, will offer reflections on these questions. Drawing on his extensive diplomatic experience, Ambassador Hijazi will discuss the evolving multilateral terrain and the opportunities and limits of legal instruments in pursuing justice internationally. The event will also explore the intersection of law, politics, and public opinion in shaping international responses.
